Dear all,

i am pretty new to OpenFoam and as every beginner i have a few problems understanding how this software works.
I am trying to set up a conjugate heat transfer case but i am struggling a lot with the boundary conditions.

I have 2 Domains of different sizes: one Plate with two cylindrical battery cells(21700) which should be coupled.
My current problem is with the patches. The patch on the Battery cells are circular faces which i created using ICEM CFD while meshing. The patch on the plate is square which i also created using ICEM CFD. Is there a way in which i only could couple the touching faces without the surrounding cells? I tried via manipulationg the boundary file in polymesh like this in both folders:
type mappedWall;
inGroups 1(wall);
nFaces 1512;
startFace 307608;
sampleMode nearestPatchFace;
sampleRegion Block;
samplePatch WALL_BLOCK;

but it seems like it is mapping the circular faces of the battery cells to every single face on the plate, which is not correct.
Is there a way to do this without changing the mesh of the plate?

I would be very greatful for any kind of help!

Regards

Hi,

i think one thing you could try is to seperate the boundary of the box while you create the geometry to include the circular portions that are inside the square area.
Another alternative would be to use an AMI (arbitrary mesh interface), however i would prefer the first option, i haven't used second all that often and i am not quite sure wether the physical area must still be the same or not...

However i think having individual circular areas inside the square area should do the trick.

Hope this helps a bit and good luck!
