Probe Meaning in Periodic BC

Hello friends,
I have a very basic question: I'm simulating a very long pipe using cyclic BC. My flow is velocity driven. I have a probe in the center of my computational domain. What exactly is my probe measuring? I know it records the V(u,v,w) and P at that point. Cyclic BC reuses the computational domain over and over again. When you look at it as an infinite pipe, is my probe "moving" forward as the boundary condition gets wrapped around? I'm confused about this question for a while. Can someone give me some pointers?
