Hi everyone,
I'm running the case of turbulent flow around a square cylinder , with LES model. The solver is pimpleFoam. Does anyone know how I can extract instantaneous Reynolds stress ? Thanks a lot Marta |

I tried the R utility for pimpleFoam and it didn't work with the error that it is only valid turbulence models RASModel or laminar.
Are you running LES? You can get the resolved Reynolds stresses by using the functions probes or fieldsAverage + UPrime2Mean in the controlDict file. |

Thanks Bazinga,
I also tried the R utility with the same result. And I just checking what came out using UPrime2Mean in the controlDict, setting outputControl: timeStep. I would need instantaneous Re stress without no averaging.. Marta |

Thanks Ipz_michele,
the better way for a while seems to run it again using the functions in the controlDirect. Marta |

The only option i am aware of to get the instantaneous values of the Reynolds stresses is to use probes for the velocity. You need to define them before you start the simulation for each point where you wanna obtain the stresses. From the time history of the velocity you can get the stresses.

Thanks for your help.
Actually I'm trying to find out a way to have the stresses for each point of the grid. (I need them as source for the acoustic field) |

Hi,
so far to get the instantaneous Re stress I tried to add two functions in the controlDict: turbulenceFields (that should store R on the mesh) and writeRegisteredObject. I need to verify what came out. I obtained a symmetric tensor for each time, on each point of the grid. I also should say that I'm very new on openFoam, so I easily go wrong. |
