Hello REEF3D,

I'm currently engaged in simulating a wind turbine platform using REEF3D. However, I've encountered an issue post-simulation.

The problem is that the platform is sinking to the bottom of the numerical wave tank instead of floating in the waves as expected. How can I resolve this issue? I will attach a screenshot of the simulation error for reference.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hi.
Could you attach your ctrl.txt?
If ParaView shows the platform sinking it is probably also sinking in the simulation. First thing that comes to my mind is the mass of the platform. Could you verify that your platform mass is correctly set and recognised? REEF3D prints out the mass during initialization.

Does the substantial mass of the platform cause the sinking?

here I'm attaching the ctrl.txt. please check the SS also

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hi,

First, you must explicitly specify the moments of inertia with the X 24 command.

Second, the mesh quality of the STL geometry is important.

Third, you have to be sure about the mass of the wind turbine.

1. Even after adding X 24 as you advised, the platform still sinking.
2. I will attach the mesh-quality SS
3. I provided the exact mass in the ctrl.txt file (so you are saying the platform only floats with an accurate mass? or the higher mass of the platform is the reason for sinking?)

How to solve the issue?
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Are you still experiencing the sinking issue? I am facing a similar problem when I try to place a semi-submersible in a numerical tank. Despite assigning the correct mass and allowing only heave motion (restricting all other movements that do not require moment of inertia values), the semi-submersible starts sinking. However, when I replace the semi-submersible body with a solid rectangular box, I achieve a stable condition. Could you please help me understand the possible reason for this?
