I have meshed 3D model of car cabin for thermal comfort analysis using TRIA surfacemeshing in Hypermesh V11.Now i want to import it to STAR CCM+ v7. i tried using editing .hm and saving it as a .nas file and imported to STAR ccm+. i am getting error as shown below..
Nastran part import failed . elements types may not be supported or input file could be corrupted or no valid parts could be identified .please recheck the input file.no element bulk data found in file path... Anybody having solution..? |

Hi,
HyperMesh has various options for exporting meshes. Which Nastran format did you try ? There are - Nastran (Fluent) - Nastran (StarCD) -Nastran (PowerFlow) formats Any particular reason that you are doing only surface meshing in HyperMesh and not full volume meshing? If you are decide to go for volume meshing, in my experience Fluent format would be the most robust. |

One more thing. This post might get more replies if posted in Mesh Generation forum

Actually Star CCM + is more compatible with Hypermesh .. and we can generate volume mesh in STAR CCM+ easily.

Hi. I am using star-ccm+ 7.04 and hypermesh v11.0. I am doing surface meshing in hypermesh and want to export it into star ccm+ and then to es-ice.
my elements in hypermesh are mixed and when i export it as nastran file and open in STAR CCM+ and click 'mesh on' it is only trais. Am i missing something here? I want mixed elements and not trais? |

Are you using CFD General user profile in HyperMesh?
Could you open the Nastran file in a text editor to verify if HyperMesh is writing out CQUAD4 as well? |

Thank you for your reply. I am using nastran user profile. Should i use CFD General user profile? my geometry is only a solid - a piston crown.
yes, when I open the Nastran file in a text editor I do have both CQUAD4 and CTRIA3. |

Yes CFD General profile would be more appropriate during export.
There are various Nastran export formats, including Nastran (StarCD), Nastran (Fluent) formats. It is strange that .nas file has CQUAD4 and still not being displayed in StarCCM+. Is there any other way to check element type, to rule out graphics issues? |

Thanks for replying. I have tried exporting it from CFD general profile Nastran (StarCD) & Nastran (Fluent) formats, a dialog box with message ' Only components /collectors with volume elements and surface elements should be displayed, all other components should not bve displayed. collector names should be selected as follows fluid*, solid* and boundary consitions. Do you want to continue'
Then ' there are no volume elements displayed. Do you want to continue' and then 'None of the displayed components have type fluid or fluid*. List of displayed components lvl0, Quitting..' Do I need to create collectors here? I have read in other queries to create collectors for exporting into openFOAM or Ansys. I am only trying to do surface mesh and there is no assigning of material properties or thickness or boundary conditions. I am starting to doubt if ccm+ automatically does triangulation while importing any nastran file. Thanks, |

The following link shows the checks required for HyperMesh surface mesh export.
http://training.altairuniversity.com...Meshing_V5.pdf Last three slides contain importing in AcuConsole/AcuSolve. Apart from these last three slides, rest should be applicable to your process as well. Try this and see if you can export... |

hello,
I have a similar problem, I need to import a volume mesh that I performed on Hypermesh on STAR CCM+. I tried to export the volume mesh under many format: File type: CFD ; Nastran ; Nastran Solver type/ template: Nastran(STARCD); Standard format; Long Format When I try to import the volume mesh from STARCCM+, no one of those file are recognized. |

1. Did you try exporting the mesh from HyperMesh in StarCD or Fluent format?
File Type: CFD. Solver Type: Fluent or StarCD Vertex-Cell. 2. If you are importing volume mesh from StarCCM+ to HyperMesh, then there might be an issue with polyhedra elements. |

Yes I tried CFD>StarCD Vertex-Cell but it didn't work and finally I try CFD>Fluent and it did work unexpectedly !
So as much as I know, to export meshing from Hypermesh to star ccm+ we must: - to export surface mesh: CFD>Nastran(StarCD) - to export volume mesh: CFD>Fluent Thank you for answer ! Cheers |
