I have obtained results for a model in star CCM+. I want the surface average velocity for an arbitrary surface on the outlet face of the geometry. Maybe I have the coordinates of the points joining the arbitrary surface. Plz help how to go about this.
Thanks. |

If I understand you right, then you want to create an arbitrary plane and then extract the surface averaged velocity close your outlet.
If the geometry and position of this arbitrary plane is important, then would I create this surface in a cad-system. If it is less advanced geometry would i use a section plane (Derived part -> Section plane) for a flat surface, or for an arbitrary surface use the 3D-CAD modeler in Star CCM+, sketch a line/spline and extrude it to a surface, then create a new geometry part followed by creating a derived part with this (Derived part -> Section -> Arbitrary). If the geometry and position of the plane is less crucial, then would I use the "create plane section" tool and cut your geometry directly in your scene. When you have created the section plane, then can you extract the averaged velocity by creating a surface averaged report (Report -> Surface average) and select Velocity as scalar field function and the section plane as part. Hope this will work for you. |

Hi
Constrained Plane option (under derived parts) will also work, it is easier to create compared to arbitary plane. You can create a spline curve of arbitary shape in your current scene which will become the constrained plane. Also you must create a local coordinate system for the constrained plane so that it's normal could be defined. (If the normal is already aligned with one of the axes of the laboratory coordinate system, then you can refrain from creating a new one as it will be nothing but redundant.. ) BTW if the arbitary plane or constrained plane is hanging in the middle of the volume mesh, i.e, if the plane is not enclosed by a wall boundary completely, you will get incorrect (non-conservative) values. If you fiddle with the settings, you will know how to go about creating constrained plane. See the help manual and steve portal too Hope this was helpful. |

How do I create an arbitraty triangular surface on my geometry, the vertices of the triangle are known to me.
