How to reduce size of autosaved .sim-files?

Hello everyone,
when doing non-steady simulations in STAR-CCM+, the autosaved files constantly increase in size, which sooner or later causes me memory issues. Is there a possibility to shrink the file size again? And in the first place, why are those files getting so big at all? The first .sim-file was about 20 MB, now I'm getting more then 5 GB per autosaved file. I already saw that the residuals are stored for the whole simulation in each file, so I think that those are part of this effect. Is there anything else that causes this behavior? And: how can those things be cleared for at least some of my autosaves? If I knew what to so, I would probably use a macro to resolve my memory issues. Any hint is highly appreciated! Thank you very much for your help! |

Never got that issue. Is it .sim or .simh? simh-files can get very large of course.

Maybe you want to ask your DSE. I have no idea why a meshed 20MB sim-file get this size ...

Thought that this is connected to the size of your plots/monitors, which get more data to save over the simulation.

I am suspicious of your original sim file being 20MB. That sounds like a sim file which does not have a volume mesh. 5GB for a mesh and solution sounds pretty reasonable to me. How big is the mesh? What kind of simulation is it?
The sim file does not store any of the post-processed information, only the mesh, solution at current timestep, and settings. You can't reduce the size of the sim file other than reducing the size of your mesh. You can save transient data perhaps a little easier using the .simh file. What data are you trying to save every timestep? |
