fluidmechanics is on a distinguished road
Dear all;

I am going to study a moving boundary fluid mechanic problem using star ccm+10 for my M.S thesis. The problem is a kind of dynamic mesh in which the motion of the surface is known as grid velocity. Considering the initial height of the region by 4cm , after severe compression of fluid zone, the final height will be around 4 mm.

I want to know is it possible to simulate such a large mesh deformation problem in star ccm without getting negative volume? How? (using morphing mesh?)

Does Star CCm have remeshing option for highly skewed cells in the region or not?

Thanks for your replies.

As always, it depends on the exact problem. Compressing a simple cylinder by a ratio of 10 shouldn't be a problem. But if the setup is more complex it can be more difficult.

You can try the morpher of course. For a relatively simple compression with known grid velocity you can also try User Defined Vertex Motion. This will use your applied motion distribution not only on the boundary but also on the internal vertices.

There is no automatic remeshing capability, s. How to remesh or realign the mesh in transient analysis
