Hi everyone,

I am trying to simulate a wind turbine in STAR CCM+ to gain results for thrust and power.

I have used a Moving Reference Frame model for the simulation but am getting strange results when comparing to Blade Element Momentum Method.

My inputs at the moment are wind speed in the velocity inlet of the domain boundary and a rotational speed associated to the moving reference frame.

From the reports in STAR CCM+ I can see that it is possible to monitor thrust but cant monitor power.

Could using one axial momentum theory for power equation be;

P=0.5*density*V inlet*Area of turbine*(velcoty@turbine - Velocity exit)?

You can make an expression report to monitor power. Just make a torque report and you already know the angular velocity.
