Default Visualisation of velocity vector on a plane

I am simulating Dean Flow through a microchannel and can not for the life of me work out how to show the transverse velocity vectors. It can be done - as shown in this paper (https://www.nature.com/articles/srep44072)

I would like to get the second picture:

My current method has been to create a plane and then show the velocity vector on it. This however shows the veolicty along the channel rather than across it. If I go to a scalar scene I can choose the i, j, or k components of velocity, but these are not vectors.

My next step was to create a user defined field function (UDFF) that only showed the two components of velocity that I require and then apply that to the planar scene. $$Velocity[1]

However, I could not get this to work. My final attempt was to create a third UDFF that is made up of the vector components I require and multiply this by the Velocity field function. I feel like that might work but I can't find enough information on the UDFF syntax to get it working. The User manual I have acces to is pretty sparse on this subject.

Other programs have an option called 'vectors on plane' or something similar. I would like to find this option in STAR CCM+

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want just vectors i.e. straight lines with arrows - there is a "Projection Mode" property of Vector Displayer in the Scene that can be set to "Tangent".

If you want it to look more like in the image - you'll need a Section Plane and a Constrained Streamline set on it (both Part and Source) with Initial Integration Step set to small value (try 10⁻³ m for start).

Thank you very much, this was exactly what I was looking for!

I will look into setting a constrained streamline on the plane next, but the tangent visualisation is working well for now. It is funny how a simple button press like this can seem imposible to find. I was getting rather worried I would have to import my data into Paraview or something!
