Hey guys, i am trying to simulate the effect of wind on a simple low-rise building model with a finite wall and roof thickness of around 0.5m.

However, my problem is that, when generating my flow domain through boolean subtraction, I believe I am creating a material discontinuity due to the hollowed out center of my 'building' piece. Star seems to 'snap' the flow domain together to overcome it. This, in turn, could be causing problems for my mesh and resulting outputs.

I was just wondering if anyone knows any methods for creating a flow domain for a structure with a hollowed center such as a building interior, without creating these unwanted discontinuities.

Scenes are attached to better my explanation.

Many thanks,

C.

Can you explain what is a material discontinuity? You can hollow out objects using a boolean subtract. What is the problem here?

Hi there, so my problem is that when i perform the boolean subtraction to create my flow domain, I essentially create a section that is disconnected to the rest due to the hollow inside of my building part. This is because the building starts at the 'floor' of the flow domain. This also creates a strange crack here in my flow domain shown from the bottom floor, as Star is attempting to connect everything up I think. So i am really just trying to find out if you can have a section of a flow domain that is disconnected to the rest, and if not is there a way around this to model a structure with a hollow interior in a flow domain?

Thanks.

Stop the panic. Take some deep breaths. You can CAD "hollow" structures. That's not an issue. But you obviously have a CAD'ing issue. Think logically through the steps to build up your CAD model instead of blaming Star of doing magic.

CAD is just CAD. It doesn't know what is flow and what is building. All it cares is whether you follow topological rules like number of faces sharing an adjacent edge.
