Adrian Portillo-Juan is on a distinguished road
Good afternoon:

I am working with Simcenter Star-CCM+ v15.04.008 on hydro-acoustic simulations.

I am comparing FW-H impermeable and permeable surfacer for noise generation in cavitating conditions. In this aspect, a permeable formulation should be enough to capture non-linear cavitating sound. However, as this is computationally expensive this is normally done through certain formulations. After reading the Star-CCM+ tutorial guide, it seems this is done through Q1A formulation from AIAA-96-0151. However, this paper does not appear in the tutorial guide bibliography. Instead they mention "Casalino, D. 2003. "An advanced time approach for acoustic analogy predictions", J Sound and Vibration, 261:4, pp. 583-612."

So my main concerns are:

- Is formulation Q1A the one implemented for cavitating noise or other one?

- Is this formulation able to capture cavitating noise?

- In case it is, can it fully capture the quadrupoles or only the most energetic ones?

- Are noise sources originating in the vapor formation processes from cavitation well captured with this formulation or does it need any other model to be implemented?

- Quadrupole noise can also be implemented in an impermeable approach. Theoretically, this should not be possible, what are the models behind this fact? I did not see anything specific in the tutorial guide.

Thank you very much!

Best regards:

Adrián.
