Hello everyone,

What happens when we have a commented line in SU2? I know it is ignored, but what if it is a mandatory option? What does it happen in the following example?

% Flow non-dimensionalization (DIMENSIONAL, FREESTREAM_PRESS_EQ_ONE,
% FREESTREAM_VEL_EQ_MACH, FREESTREAM_VEL_EQ_ONE)
%REF_DIMENSIONALIZATION= FREESTREAM_PRESS_EQ_ONE

It seems to me that the first option is chosen (DIMENSIONAL). If so, is it always like that?

Thank you for considering my request.

Best regards,

Gittagawa

Yep! dimensional, is the default value for REF_DIMENSIONALIZATION. But I'm not personally a particular fan of that. Some slope limiters and numerical methods work better if the solver uses non-dimensional values.

By the way, if you are interested in developing SU2, this webpage www.su2devsociety.org is going to be the reference for the developers.

Best,
Francisco

Hello Francisco,

Thank you for your response. I did a test using both configurations, and I noticed the results are slightly different, as you can see in the enclosed picture.

Francisco,

Could you expand on this comment? Which limiters and numerical methods have you found (in SU2 or in general) to work better using non-dimensional values cf. dimensional values assuming that machine precision is small enough?

Thanks,
Andy
