Hi Tecplot users,
Just wanted to check whether any of you have some experience with importing an STL or other surfaces into Tecplot 360 and mapping some CFD data on to it? I am loading my some multiblock, structured 3D CFD results files generated in a Plot3D format (.g and .f) which are represented at volume zones but doesn't contain boundary information (automotive bluff body). Then, I'm importing an STL which represents the surface of the bluff body but can't find a technique/tool to display the volume zones interpolated on to a surface zone (STL). There are two different things I need - a) I would like to ideally view the pressure coefficients on the surface of the STL file. I thought about scaling it up by a tiny amount and somehow 'slicing' the volume zones with the surfaces. b) Extract the edges or wall cells from the volume zones of the CFD domain by using a y=0 (central longitudinal) slice through the domain. I need to plot centreline Cp values. Unfortunately, due to the multiblock data structure, my attempts only led to the extraction of all the edges at each block interface and an XY Cartesian plot on these don't make much sense at all. Can anyone shed some light on this or direct me to some additional resources? Thanks in advance!

Here are a couple things to try:
1) The boundary can usually be represented as a constant plane (like the J=1 or K=1 plane). To create a boundary from the volume data you might try using Data->Extract->Subzone... and extract just the planes that represent the bluff body. 2) Once you have the boundary zones extracted, disable the volume zones. Then you can use the Slice dialog and set it to "Slice through: Surface Zones". Then you can extract that slice and plot Cp in an XY plot. Alternately you may be able to use the "Surfaces to Plot" setting in the Zone Style dialog to show just the planes that represent the bluff body, then slice using the "Slice through: Surfaces of Volume Zones" setting and do the extraction. This eliminates the extract subzone step (#1) above. Hope this helps! Scott |
