Description:
The Schunk research group at University of New Mexico’s (UNM) Center for 
MicroEngineered Materials in Albuquerque, NM (http://cbe.unm.edu/faculty-
staff/faculty/p-randall-schunk.html) conducts research in modeling and 
simulation of manufacturing processes and engineered-materials performance 
with in-house developed computational mechanics tools. Current applications 
include coating and printing, polymer processing, thin-sheet porous 
structure performance, semiconductor processing, and micro- and 
nanomanufacturing. The tool we use is Goma  6.0 (https://goma.github.io/) – 
an open source finite element multiphysics software package.

We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to advance Goma’s capabilities by 
developing and implementing novel algorithms as well as performing analyses 
for our internal and external customers. To successfully support the work 
effort, a candidate will need to possess skills that span research, 
development, implementation, and application.

Qualifications we require: 
• Ph.D. in Scientific Computing, Applied Mathematics, Chemical Engineering, 
Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline conferred within one 
to three years of employment.
• Experience with computer code development and working knowledge of the C, 
C++ and/or Fortran computer languages
• Familiarity with numerical techniques and algorithms as applicable to 
finite element method.

Qualifications we desire: 
• Strong background in applied mechanics, including fluid dynamics or solid 
mechanics.
• Some background in parallel programming and high-performance computing
• Familiarity with models for complex fluids such as foams and suspensions.
• Expertise in coating flows
• Expertise with solving Maxwell’s equations
• Working knowledge of LINUX operating system
• Strong interpersonal, organization, and communication skills (both oral 
and written), as evidenced through a record of publications and 
presentations.
