We are looking for 1 Masters or PhD student to do Large Eddy Simulations of re- entry flows (Mach 15-25) including the effect of the plasma sheath on the boundary layer transition.

You will be using the CFDWARP code to perform the simulations. CFDWARP has the unique capability to simulate non-neutral plasma sheaths with time steps in the microsecond range or higher, hence permitting for the first time a LES of a non-neutral plasma sheath coupled with a hypersonic boundary layer.

Your duties will be to modify the chemical solvers and to implement a radiative heat transfer model within CFDWARP, to run CFDWARP on a large cluster of computers, and to develop codes to analyze the results. Excellent programming and computational mathematics skills are required. Prior experience in the numerical simulation of reactive flows is an asset.

You will join the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Arizona, a top-100 global university with world-renowned faculty with strong ties to Raytheon, Honeywell, NASA, Boeing, and Lockheed.
