Closure Date | Monday, March 18, 2019 |
Description: |
The Department of Chemical Engineering at University of Los Andes (Bogota, Colombia), is
recruiting a PhD student for a project on experimental and CFD simulation of electro submersible
Pump (ESP) and Electrical Submersible Progressing Cavity Pump (ESPCP) working with O/W
emulsions.
We are currently looking for a highly motivated researcher to join us in an exciting project. The aim is
to study and contrast the operation and performance of these two pumps considering two-phase
liquid-liquid flow and O/W direct emulsion, through experimental and coupled CFD-PBM
approaches.
Major responsibilities
As a PhD student you will be part of a research environment while you expand your knowledge of
the field and write your thesis. You are expected to be a team player with strong interest in industrial
applications, but also to work autonomously, to develop your own ideas and communicate results to
the scientific community. The graduate programme will thus comprise 3 years of study and research.
Position summary
Full time employment at the Department of Chemical Engineering. Starting date: 1 July 2019.
Qualifications
• Spanish language proficiency is mandatory.
• A master's degree on Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is a must.
• Applicants must have a strong background in CFD modelling using commercial software (i.e.
STAR-CCM+)
• Expertise on pumps in the lab is an advantage.
• Knowledge on Population Balance Modelling (PBM) is a plus.
• Familiar with non-Newtonian behaviour; such fluids exhibit a nonlinear response to imposed
strain rate and to strain. Typical examples include emulsions.
• The developed methods are implemented in software that will be used by industry and very
good programming skills (e.g., Java, Matlab) are therefore required.
• In your application you should include all relevant work such as bachelor's or master's thesis
and articles (provide an English summary if necessary) that you have authored or co-authored.
Evidence of mathematical problem-solving skills is significant, besides course grades.
Application procedure.
The application should be sent electronically and be attached as pdf-files, as below:
CV: (Please name the document: CV, Family name)
• CV
• Other, for example previous employments or leadership qualifications and positions of trust.
• Two references that we can contact.
Personal letter: (Please name the document as: Personal letter, Family name)
• 1-3 pages where you introduce yourself and present your qualifications.
Other documents:
• Copies of bachelor and/or master’s thesis.
