The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Florida 
International University (Miami, USA) has three Ph.D. positions beginning 
Spring 2022/Fall 2022. Potential research topics include (but not limited 
to) modeling of wind-vegetation interaction, modeling of the hydrodynamics 
of wave-mangrove interaction, modeling of water quality (1D-3D), machine 
learning/AI for reduced-order modeling, air-water high speed flows, and 
urban water flows modeling. This position includes a full tuition waiver and 
a yearly salary of over $24,000/year. 

Desired Qualifications: 
•	Master’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, 
nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, applied mathematics, physics, or 
a related field.
•	Published at least one journal paper. 
•	A solid understanding of fluid dynamics, numerical methods and 
multiphase flows. 
•	Highly skilled in OpenFOAM.
•	Programming skills in languages such as Python, Fortran, C, C++, 
•	Machine learning skills are desirable but not required.
