Potsdam Model Basin (SVA) is a globally active company in the field of ship hydrodynamics. Since its foundation in 1953, the SVA has been working on solving industry-related research tasks and supporting industrial product developments. For this purpose, SVA operates test facilities of international standard and uses highly developed software for numerical simulations. SVA started early to develop and apply modern CFD methods and contributes to the development for example with internationally published validation cases such as the Potsdam Propeller Test Case (PPTC). 

We are looking for:

Research Engineer (m/f/d) - CFD based propeller design – optimization – method development


We offer an interesting and exciting job in the field of ship dynamics, in this case in the specific field of propeller and cavitation.

The tasks include:
•	Calculation, optimization and design of propellers with CFD methods
•	Development of optimization strategies, models and tools for the application with OpenFOAM
•	Preparation, supervision and evaluation of model tests at all facilities and locations (especially towing tank & cavitation tunnel) in order to test designs and to validate methodologies 
•	Collaboration in cross-departmental project teams
•	Processing of R&D projects and publication of project results
•	Collaboration in the planning, theoretical support, evaluation and report preparation of the assigned tasks as well as expert advice to the clients

Requirements:
•	Completed technical degree (M.Eng., M.Sc., PhD) with strengths in hydrodynamics and numerical methods
•	Experience with CFD, preferably OpenFOAM
•	Experience in programming, preferably C++ and Python
•	Basic knowledge in CAD 
•	Ability to familiarize with complex theoretical topics such as propeller theory
•	Interest in experimental fluid mechanics
•	Ability to work independently, with commitment and with reliability
•	Ability to work in a team 
•	Very good English skills
•	Preferably German skills
