Computational Electromagnetics: Basics & Applications
The workshop is aimed at students and faculty who are working in the field of electromagnetics or are planning to start their research in this field. Workshop will also be very helpful in training engineers/scientists from R&D organization working in the field of Radars, Radar Cross Sections, Antennas, Wave Guides, and other electromagnetic applications using computational tools.

Description:

Synopsis
Computational Electromagnetics (CEM), an extremely
versatile
technology requiring high performance computing environment
is poised to take over as universal methodology for
simulating problems in industrial R&D regarding
electromagnetics. Analytical solutions to electromagnetic
problems are often restricted by the assumptions used in
deriving those solutions. These assumptions can be
pertaining to range of frequencies or size of the problem
etc.

CEM is free from frequency restrictions as it is numerical
simulation of most general Maxwells equations. Since the
objects to be studied are modeled in actual dimensions, CEM
is not restricted by the size of the object if enough
computing power is available. All the frequencies from
Rayleigh, Mie or optical region can be simulated from the
same software. CEM finds application in estimating the
Radar
Cross Section of Aerospace and Marine configurations,
design
of antennas, design of wave guides etc.

Lectures: Overview of CEM and RCS, Introduction to
Maxwells
equation, Introduction to Grid Generation, RCS of Simple
shapes, MoM/FEM methods Finite Volume Time Domain (FVTD)
method, High Performance Computing, Verification and
Validation in CEM. Lectures will be followed by
demonstration/hands on session using ZnCEMExpert for
simulation of simple problems.

Target Audience

This course is valuable for students, faculty and research
engineers of Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical and
Aerospace Engg who want to make a career in growing areas
like CEM or want to solve their practical problems in
Electromagnetics using simulation tools. Participants
working in the field of Radars, stealth devices, design of
antenna or wave guides will benefit from this workshop.
Theory lectures given by IIT faculty and outstanding
scientist from ZN will benefit the participants in
understanding the basic physics of the electromagnetic
problems. Lectures will be supplemented by hands on
sessions
on ZnCEMExpert software that will give the participant a
know-how of solving practical problems.
