The International Master's Programme in Turbulence is offered within the Department of Thermo and Fluid Dynamics at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. It consists of four quarters of courses followed by a thesis project. Upon completion of the programme students are awarded the Master of Science (MSc) degree.
The programme deals in depth with modern computational and experimental approaches to turbulent flows. The International Master's Programme in Turbulence is taught entirely in English.
The complete programme covers three semesters of studies, starting in the fall. One semester of fulltime studies equals 20 credit units (cu). The programme includes 40 cu of courses and a Master's thesis of 20 cu. The academic year at Chalmers is devided into quarters; quarter 1 and quarter 2 are in the fall semester, September - December, quarter 3 and 4 are in the spring semester, January - May. The Master's Programme will therefore begin in September 2002 and end in December 2003.
COURSES
Students are required to complete eight courses of which four are compulsory. They are Introduction to Turbulence, Turbulence Theory, Turbulence Modeling and Experimental Fluid Dynamics. We assume that the students have taken two courses approximately corresponding to our Fluid Mechanics I (advanced course, see content, Panton Ch.1-7,13,22,23) and Computational Fluid Dynamics. Otherwise this/these course(s) should be taken concurrently in the Master's Programme. Electives can be chosen from a great variety of offerings in areas such as combustion, automotive engineering, multiphase flow, turbomachinery and mathematics.
