Intelligent Light Announces Details of FIELDVIEW 10

New Features Increase User Capability, Productivity, and Impact
New 64-bit Platforms Bring Large Model Capability to more users
Rewritten and Redesigned Documentation Empowers New and Experienced Users

Rutherford, NJ (August 25, 2004) - Intelligent Light announced details today of FIELDVIEW 10, the latest version of the industry’s most widely used CFD post processing software.  FIELDVIEW 10 has already shipped to thousands of FIELDVIEW users worldwide and continues the annual commitment to delivering important new capabilities in a major new release.  Included in FIELDVIEW 10 are new platform support, productivity, print and publishing enhancements, and new features for turbomachinery simulations.

“FIELDVIEW 10 is evidence of a renewed commitment to helping CFD engineers create a greater impact with their work,” said Steve Legensky, General Manager at Intelligent Light. “Improved productivity means more accurate and compelling results while the print and publishing enhancements make it easier to communicate critical insights derived from CFD simulations.”

Automation Increases Productivity, Sharing Results Increases the Impact of CFD

As workflows evolve and CFD results are reaching more people both inside and outside the engineer’s organization, Intelligent Light has remained committed to delivering powerful, accessible tools that fit into modern engineering workflows. Following the client server and remote visualization capabilities delivered in the prior release of FIELDVIEW, this major new release continues the long tradition of  delivering new functionality in a highly productive and user-friendly environment.

FIELDVIEW 10 delivers new print and publishing capabilities that improve both the effectiveness of  presentations and reporting using FIELDVIEW images and the ease with which these images are created and manipulated in reports.

·          Windows Enhanced Metafile (.emf) output improves printing and reporting quality. The resulting images can be rescaled in other applications without loss of quality.

·          Clean presentation and display of surface flow features when working with thin surfaces like airfoils and mixing blades.

·          A preview image is now available when working with Encapsulated Postscript (.eps) output.

New levels of CFD process automation are possible with new SAVE RESTART capabilities allowing users to save important dataset states and return to them during automated processing.

Expanded Platform Support

64-bit performance and memory addressability are essential to CFD and have been standard features of  traditional UNIX platforms for several years. 64-bit availability continues for SGI IRIX®, HP-UX (PA-RISC for FV 10 Server) and HP Alpha/Tru64.  With the arrival of high performance, 64-bit platforms on standard architectures, FIELDVIEW has been ported to support these new platforms. FIELDVIEW 10 will support both AMD Opteron™ and Intel® Itanium® 2 systems running the Linux® OS.

·          AMD Opteron based systems are now supported running SuSE Linux. This enables full 32/64 bit compatibility between the workstation and the server.

·          Intel Itanium 2– The FV 10 server is now fully certified for the SGI Altix® line of LINUX servers.

“The AMD Opteron system has proven to be the fastest system we are running in-house. The performance, value, and 32/64-bit flexibility fits in well with our philosophy of delivering maximum performance and productivity while respecting our customers’ workflow,” said Legensky. “The ability to run FIELDVIEW in 64-bit on standard platforms and Linux is very attractive to many FIELDVIEW users. Current PC users who are hindered by the 2 GB memory limit of previous PC processors will be able to work unconstrained for the first time.”

Turbomachinery feature enhancements

FIELDVIEW  has been popular for turbomachinery applications since its introduction.  Our exclusive Region File technology provides unique tools that are specific to rotating machinery problems.  FIELDVIEW 10 provides a significant update to this capability that makes working with post processing models more intuitive and natural for the user. FIELDVIEW 10 fits in better than ever to the way engineers work and think so that users are not required to adapt their methodology to their tools.

Improved Documentation Increases Productivity

“In our commitment to empowering users, we have redesigned the entire documentation for FIELDVIEW 10,” states Dr. Matthew Godo, Product Manager for FIELDVIEW. “It was important to provide more examples, improved navigation and an easier user exploration through the use of extensive linking.” Users will still receive both a hardcopy of the User’s Guide with tutorials and online documentation. They will benefit from the ability to easily find topics of interest, readily follow cross links to relevant information, and from the straightforward exploration of sub topics within demonstration documents. The new documentation is the result of a strategic investment made by Intelligent Light in support of our standing objective to ensure the accessibility of FIELDVIEW features for users.

The new documentation makes it much easier for CFD engineering groups to develop a committed and capable user base for FIELDVIEW. Users are empowered to fully exploit the capabilities of FIELDVIEW as a result of the easy access to advanced feature sets.  FIELDVIEW 10 documentation delivers a new "How To"  feature.  Using the new capability, a user can browse through an extensive list of images provided that demonstrate visualization techniques and style.  When a desired tool or outcome is identified, a single mouse click brings them to an example with explicit directions.  It's a great way to learn about FIELDVIEW features and gets people directly to the help they need.

These new features and capabilities underscore the importance of delivering increasingly powerful, accessible, and user friendly software to Intelligent Light customers.
