AVL and TNO Launch SWIFT CAA Version

Posted By: AVL - AST

Silent Revolution

AVL Austria and TNO have announced the release of the new SWIFT CAA version in June 2003. This version features a very advanced Computational Aero Acoustics (CAA) capability as an extension to the well-known Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD tool SWIFT. This major release offers turnkey aerodynamic and aero acoustic simulations in and around moving objects as found in aerospace and automotive industry for the control of aerodynamically generated noise. The CAA software is a development by TNO in The Netherlands and will be presented at the TNO Booth during the Paris Airshow (20 – 25 June 2003).

The novel workflow manager of the SWIFT software integrates meshing, CFD simulations, CAA simulations and visualisation in a very user-friendly way. This saves significant processing time by preventing unnecessary data exchange and mesh generation cycles.

In 2002 TNO TPD in Delft, The Netherlands and AVL Advanced Simulation Technologies in Graz, Austria, decided to combine their knowledge of aerodynamics and aero acoustics. AVL is the world's largest privately owned and independent company for the development of powertrain systems with internal combustion engines as well as instrumentation and test systems. AVL is an established name in the automotive industry and is also developing and launching state of the art CFD software (SWIFT). TNO is a major research organisation in Europe and is developing state of the art CAA software.
