I am trying to mesh a 3D airfoil using edge sizing and inflation functions in ANSYS.
I have used quad mesh instead of triangular to mesh the airfoil. I am not sure if the mesh is 100% correct. Could you please tell me if there is any problem? Please look at the screenshots. Thank you in advance! |

the volume jump between the last cell of the prism layers and the first cell of the regular mesh is far too high.
Why wouldn't you use a block-strucutred hexahedral mesh for this purpose? |

I have changed the mesh and used triangular mesh. How is that now? Is it acceptable? |

Looks better, but still the transition between the cell volumes looks too fast.
Don't forget to include the prism layers. I don't think that you need such a high mesh density at the leading and trailing edge of the airfoil. Personally, I would avoid tet meshes and use hexahedrons whenever possible. I think there are some tutorials in this forum about this topic, some of them especially dealing with airfoils |

It' better to have prism on the boundary layer (airfoil). You can keep the triangles at the same time.

The tutorials brought up by cfd seeker should render this discussion pointless. Use ICEM if you want to create reliable results on a high quality mesh. |

Could you tell me how I can reduce the transition speed between cells in ANSYS meshing? I am not familiar with ICEM.

I think there is an option called "transition" or "growth factor" in hidden in the settings. I really don't know exactly.
But I can tell you: The time spent learning ICEM is well-wasted. It is even the faster way to achieve a reasonable mesh quality in this case. With the tutorials posted here, you will be done in only a few hours. |

It still hurts my eyes
But I guess if you are committed to the Ansys Mesher, this is the best you will get. Quote:

Hello!
I have a few question on this subject! I am working on a project, pretty much the same as Julian121,and i have a problem with meshing on airfoil too. I want to ask,if I can mesh a boundary geometry (including the airfoil shape) with ICEM,and if the export file of the ICEM can import in Ansys mesher,in order to continue the project on the workbench. Thanks! I am waiting for your responses! |
