Hello everybody,

I have problem with a quite complex model which has many contacts between bodies. For a CFX Simulation it is problematic, if one face is in contact with different media (e.g. multiple Solid and Fluid). Therefore you need to split up faces to make the simulation work.

So my question is, if it is possible to automatically split up faces that are in contact. Meshing recognizes the contacts but doesn't split. A manual split up process in DM would take very long.
Has anyone encountered a similiar problem?

Cheers
Marcel

Hi Marcel,

Once you have created your geometry and you have bodies listed in DM under "Part, Body" on left panel. Click on the body to see the details panel below. In the details panel you will see "Share Topology Method", Change from dropdown "Automatic" to "Imprints" and you should be able to solve your problem. (pic attached)

Hello Kapi,

thanks a lot for your help. This feature is great. The only problme i have left, is that the automatic connections in Ansys Meshing don't seem to get it all. The Automode selects faces that are thanks to Share Topology, not anymore in contact with the other body. Therefore I have to edit almost every of my 67 Connections by hand.
Have you encountered this problem? I set the tolerance value to 1e-8.

Cheers,
Marcel

select all or make it a part and then change it to imprints.

you dont need to split anything up. as Kapi said that you need to click share topo in DesingModeller and ''imprints'' button will be you ok.But dont forget it make your project ''Form New Part'' in DesignModeller''

Kidn Regards,

What I was referring to is what I think, an error in the auto detection of the connections. Having the imprint option activated, there should be the same amount of sizes on each body, right?
Well, in my attachment you see that a face was detected to be in contact, but it actually is not.

as far as I know you mean blue color is covered in differant face and it doesnt provide contact region mutual.

things I have working on always are same sizing on both part.if you enable to cut it as a symmetrical, try it but i never have tried on different bodies to contact

The blue color covers two adjacent faces, only one of those faces (the hidden one) is in contact with the other body. Can you explain this behaviour?
