An Interesting Blocking Issue

Hi all,
I'm relatively new to ICEM and am in need of some help. I'm attempting to block out a moderately complex part so that I can produce a replay script and run a parametric study on a range of geometries. The part is cyclically symmetric, so cut into thirds it looks like this: I've been having decent success thus far getting the blocks/premesh to associate to the complex geometry/fillets: I've been using block splits and a spline edge split on the upper edges to sculpt all this out. The issue I keep running into is that when I try to add nodes radially (so that I don't have these massive pizza-slice elements) everything explodes: 3 nodes 10 nodes Here's a couple pics of my current blocking: I've been trying a variety of approaches--I tried edge-splitting the edges that should be associated with the inner and outer radii to make them match up, which just caused more trouble. Associating the edges that I think should connect to the outer radius causes similar issues. Any tips on how I can block this out? Am I approaching this in the wrong way entirely, or am I just missing something vital? By the way, a lot of my strategy here is coming from Simon's elbow tutorial and this one, (which I think is by Far? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roZNUbhFVJ0) Feel free to let me know if any more info is needed to tackle this problem. Thanks, Andy |
