Prisms fail in middle of flat surface in good quality Tetra-Mesh

Hey,
I'm kind of lost with a problem. I'm meshing a geometry after imported via CAD-Interface from Siemens NX. After Octree-Meshing the Tetra-Mesh has a quality over 0.3 everywhere. I then post-inflate prisms and something weird happens. In an area in the middle of a big flat surface (ovally shaped) the prisms fail and only seven of the ten layers are formed. As a result a cluster of Tets is formed above them which have bad quality and cannot be smoothed acceptably. The Tetra-Mesh before the inflation shows no sign of differing quality or problems in this area (or at least none that I can recognize). I'm simply clueless why it happens. Did anyone experience something similar or has an idea why this happens and how it could be solved? I attached an image how the mesh looks after inflation in the particular area. My prism-parameters are: Growth law: exponential Initial height: 0.06 Height ratio: 1.15 Number of layers: 10 Total height: 1.21... Fix marching direction: off (also tried on, didnt' help) Min prism quality: 0.01 (also tried 0.001 and 0.1, didnt' help) Fillet ratio: 0.1 Max prism angle: 180 Max height over base: - Prism height limit factor: 0 (also tried 1, didnt' help) Ratio multiplier: - Smoothing Options: Number of surface smoothing steps: 6 Triangle quality type: inscribed_area (also tried Laplace with different Ortho weights and directional smoothing, didnt' help) Nr of vol smoothing steps: 10 Max directional smoothing steps: 0 First layer smoothing steps: 1 |

So, after three days of trying I found the solution right after posting this thread...
I was an issue with the CAD-Interface. I don't fully understand it yet, but I disabled the import of volume bodies and lines from CAD (as I only need surfaces anyway) and this somehow solved the issue. |
