Hello:
I have read in the web (I can't remember where) that ANSYS is going to discontinuate DesignModeler. Does anyone know anything about it? Thanks in advance. Gonzalo |

Hi Gfoam,
I don't think Ansys is going to discontinue Design Modeler. Most proly it will be merged with Spaceclaim which Ansys acquired last year. SpaceClaim is more powerful tool than DesignModeler so by using SpaceClaim Ansys mite bring a full fledged CAD software which will be upgrade of DesignModeler or Merger of DesignModeler and SpaceClaim. We just upgraded to Ansys 16 and SpaceClaim is the default CAD program. Although I am not sure if this is standard for everyone.
Recently we had a seminar from Ansys representatives where they demonstrated that SpaceClaim can edit the CAD models generated using design modeler. So even if you dont have DM (in future) you can still use and edit the old models using SpaceClaim. |

OK, thanks. I'll have it on mind. my question was beacuse I want to acquire a DesignModeler licence because it has the posibility of edit the operations done in the model through a operation tree (wich SpaceClaim doesn't have, as far as I know) and I have heard that ANSYS will not support DM anymore... but it seems to be only a rumor. Thank you guys. Regards

Spaceclaim is not a default CAD program with Ansys 16 I suppose.
We moved to Ansys 16 recently as well~ DM is still in full use! but I reckon they will soon is merge DM and spaceclaim! |

What I meant is the installation files we downloaded from Ansys website had SpaceClaim as default program (no separate installation). Perhaps this was due to the licences we have.
I also checked at our university where they also updated to Ansys 16 (academic) and there DM is the default CAD program. Anyways, I am glad that Ansys have resolved the compatibility issues i.e DM-->SC. |
