Hello!!

So I'm on a project that involves filtration in ANSYS Fluent. The mesh in this situation (using ICEM) can vary a lot, but basically I need a INLET and an OUTLET and between them a surface FILTER and before it a surface INTERIOR (so in order INLET INTERIOR FILTER OUTLET). Far from the filter area I want a tetra mesh but before the interior I need a prism layer 1 cell thick, between the INTERIOR and FILTER another prism layer 1 cell thick and after and FILTER another prism layer. I also need the layer between the INTERIOR and FILTER to be in a separate part so I can apply a source term.

I have been able to use the prism layer generator to make the 2 "outside" prism layer, but between the surfaces it keeps giving me tetra mesh. Anybody have an idea?

I'm annexing images of the most successful attempts so far

You just extrude your filter surface mesh in both the directions for the prism layer.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

So I have tried that. I have the two surfaces 0.01 m apart, and under global mesh settings/prism settings, I tried to make 1 layer 0.01 m in length
and total length 0.01 m. I marked both the FILTER and INTERIOR surfaces for prism generation. The result is the picture I sent with prisms on both sides but tetras in the middle.

that's not supposed to happen is it? the result should have been prism on the three regions, rights?

Also, now that I've got your attention, is there a way to generate prisms in a single direction? or is there a way to generate prisms with different part names on each side?

If you extrude your filter surface then no tetra will come

I guess I'm just not familiar with this extrusion... What I have been doing is generating the mesh with a prism layer.

I looked up the extrusion in the edit mesh section, but I am having trouble linking the auto generated tetra mesh and the extruded prism mesh. I keeps making these multiple edges problems. In fact, when I loaded one these meshes to fluent, there was a wall where there should have been a interior surface. I'll keep trying and get back with any developments, but I appreciate any ideas and suggestions.

All right... So I tried the Extrusion tool. Unfortunately I didn't have much luck.

But I have a different question: is it possible to generate a prism layer in a interior surface on a single side? I have annexed an image: it shows the prism generation that I have been able to do. It has two yellow layers, with an interior surface in the middle. I need a single layer... is that possible?

I didnt get your question, you want this two layers as a single layer ?

What I want is a single layer of prisms parallel to a surface in a different part (a separate cell-zone).

I want this so I can apply a source term to that cell-zone. I need it to be a single layer of prism cells, because I want to save a "mass" value in each cell as a UDMI. The parallel surface is a porous jump that will capture particles and then I can save the mass of those particles in the UDMI. I can use this mass to calculate how much resistance I need to apply through the source term... I hope you can understand that... I'm not sure if I expressed myself well enough

Is there any surface between blue and yellow color component

No, but there is a surface in the middle of the yellow region. I'd like there to be only one cell layer in the yellow region, so that the surface in the middle will be in the border.

What I have been doing is manually selecting the cells and changing their part name. I'm afraid that might lead to uncovered faces or some other error.

just turn on the prisms only and box select one layer and put it in appropriate part

I don't understand what you said... can you elaborate more?

I have turned the prisms on for the FILTER surface in the middle. I also specified only 1 layer. But the mesh generator makes a layer on each side. I want just one layer on 1 side.

Can you send me the mesh kushal.puri@ambigai.net

Hi

I have a problem with prism layer mesh for a model used quad mesh. When i try to add prism layer mesh to model, it shown a warning. it said "warning could not fix all invrted hexas".
how can i solve this warning and add prism layer mesh to my model.

thanks
