Improve mesh of a wind turbine blade inside semi-cylinder(domain)

Hi,
I have meshed a wind turbine blade inside semi-cylindrical domain. The attached file contains images that explain the blocking strategy I have used. Could anyone help me improve the quality of the mesh. Also, my prof suggested another blocking strategy (included in the attachment) for the blocking of the cylinder, but now, I am unable to create a box around the blade (by splitting the block) and I do not know how to proceed. The thread should have read "unable to create a box (by splitting the block) around the blade"; I have edited the thread, my apologies.
I was able to mesh the half cylinder perfectly well, using an approach similar to the one suggested in the tutorial link you have posted. The problem with which I want help is: as you can see, the mesh quality around the blade is poor. I had split the block to create a box around the blade to capture its geometry; and I associated the edges of the newly created block to the curves of the blade (also shown in the attached pictures). Though I had managed to capture the geometry well, this method has elements of poor quality around the edges of the blade (also shown in the attached pictures). Please suggest something that would maintain good element quality throughout the semi-cylindrical domain (specifically around the blade). Thank you for taking time to help me out. |

I read through the thread suggested by you. It is about meshing a blade in a cube(asked by Shane and answered by PSYMN), whereas my geometry is semi-cylindrical. I am afraid the procedure suggested there cannot be implemented in my case due to the difference in the geometry.For instance, I cannot make splits similar to those suggested by PSYMN in my geometry.
Also, I have a blunt trailing edge and hence I think we do not have to use " collapse block " option. Please let me know if you have any other ideas. Thank you. |
