Hi All,

I'm attempting to run a static structural problem but encountering a few problems.

I would like to use a very fine mesh (20 mill elements) created in icem in my analysis but cannot export it to static structure.

- I have created geometry from the mesh (as i don't have the exact* geometry) using facets > mesh but this has gotten me nowhere.

- I have saved the geometry as an stl file which has allowed me to export it to spaceclaim however i am struggling to also export the mesh to be used in static structure

<*side note: i do have geometry but it is not the geometry that the mesh was created from, i have not tried to mix and match, and wondering if that is even possible?>

I have obtained this mesh from a CFD results file which i import into icem, maybe this is where my issues are stemming from(?)

I'm becoming increasingly frustrated, any help is appreciated, at this moment i am going to export the mesh file as an uns file and then mess around with external model and see if it gets me anywhere.

UPDATE:

I messed around with External Model and managed to link the mesh from External Model to static structural, this did technically work but all i have is a very fine mesh and i can only apply loads, pressure and rotational forces to one face that i can't even identify because of the mesh. Not ideal and not what i need.

Upon further investigating the stl file i exported, it does have a mesh and as said previously can be opened in spaceclaim, however it is hollow which is just utterly useless to me. It only has two bodies, which makes sense as the mesh was separated into two parts.

What i want is to have the geometry that i initially created with all its beautiful surfaces and faces in solidworks to have the mesh that was created in icem, thus allowing me to run a full static structural analysis. Is this even possible as icem is only a surface mesh? Do i create surfaces from the mesh and somehow do a volume fill with the mesh and somehow export that to static structural?

I'm a student that has only been introduced to CFD with a very limited knowledge of ansys mechanical and have been completely thrown into the deep end to do a structural analysis. Any help at all would be appreciated

Thanks!

Try using a parasolid format rather than stl

ICEM has surface as well as volume meshing. Are you using a structured mesh (hexahedral cells) or unstructured mesh (tex, prism, etc)?
