Unwanted bunching near edges

Hi,
I've made a geometry and Octree mesh of a spherical fluid domain, inside the fluid domain is a void of an aircraft. The sphere was made from 2 hemispheres (using the standard shapes in ICEM) which are yellow and green in the image so that I can assign CFX inlet and outlet boundary conditions to the 2 surfaces. I then made each hemisphere surface as a PART and set a element size to the PART. But as you can see from the image the Octree mesh has refined the elements at the edges. I did not set any edge sizes or bunching conditions. So how can this edge bunching avoided so that the element size is uniform on the surfaces? I really need help a bit quick with this one. Thanks |

The part Inlet should contain the surface and the curves that defines the Inlet of your model. Do not put in two differents parts the curves and the surfaces.
Here is a tip which could also be useful : On the tab "Mesh", there are 2 buttons : "curve mesh setup" and "surface mesh setup". Play with those two functions to improve your mesh. |

But octree always take care of the curves. It forces to refine the mesh at curves, therefre if one wants to get the uniform mesh, he should delete the curves and vice-versa

That's true, but if you put curves and surafces in the same part, your mesh would be uniform.
In a general matter, you may want to refine some edges to improve the quality or the prism generation or whatever, so it's always better to keep the edges |

Thanks for the replies.
I've just assigned cuvre sizes as well as surface sizes. But I'm 99% certain that this issue did not occur when I made a similar mesh last year. |
