Hi,

I am trying to model the wall stresses in a balloon filled with in-compressible fluid when pressure is applied along its circumference. The balloon is expected to bulge where the force is absent, and the wall stress in these areas would help to determine if the balloon would rupture.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but does anybody know if Ansys can model this?

I would also appreciate it if I could get some guidance as to how to go about doing this.

Thanks!

Keith

Really cool concept problem! I think you could figure out the exact parameters needed for the balloon to rupture just by doing some easy hand calculations. But to visually simulate that is interesting indeed. I am fairly new to ansys so I don't honestly know of the full extent of the capabilities or limits of this amazing software but from what I've seen so far, the physical boundary conditions (walls) usually never deform. Not sure if that is just because the problem is set up that way or because its not possible to simulate deformation of material + flow simulation at the same time. Hopefully someone more qualified answers both our questions!

Just wondering, is this just a problem that you want to visually see or do you want to solve for the state that causes the rupture?
