I am currently doing my thesis and its title is "modelling & simulation of drogue when subjected to hydrodynamic forces". Drogue is just a suspension body used to stabilize the buoy moment which is on the surface. i have developed a cad model for the drogue. but i am unfortunately able to setup my problem in an ansys aqwa as i have no experience of it. so i need help in to setup the simulation.

i cant do this simulation in fluent as the operating conditions are being given to me are in the form of wave amplitudes and frequency. as it is desired to develop a drogue model that can withstand its moment within certain limits under sea state 5(WMO number).

SO please anyone having experience using ansys aqwa or even another software through which it can be able to do this simulation, kindly help me on my problem. thanks in advance. i`ll be willing to pay for it. Kindly help me.

The title of your thesis begins "modeling and simulation ...." and you want to pay someone to setup the simulations? Is this common practice?

Am not an expert using AQWA, but have hands on experience using AQWA, and other CFD solvers in solving hydrodynamic problems, if you still in search of some help do contact me.

Hi!

I am getting this error when i simulate a simple floating body in ANSYS AQWA. Since i need to simulate for a wider frequency range (0-4.5 rad/s), the mesh size if very fine. But when i start the simulation after setup i get this error:

READING DECK 3:END OF .DAT FILE ENCOUNTERED READING MATE DECK.
Project>Model>Hydrodynamic Diffraction
READING DECK 2:END OF .DAT FILE ENCOUNTERED READING ELM1 DECK.
Project>Model>Hydrodynamic Diffraction
READING DECK 1:END OF .DAT FILE ENCOUNTERED
Project>Model>Hydrodynamic Diffraction
NUMBER OF COORDINATES EXCEEDED - MAXIMUM= 22000 | 122046 5.4627821 30.947678 -14.
Project>Model>Hydrodynamic Diffraction

Did anyone ever come across this problem! It might be a very simple problem or i might be missing some simple setup.

Please help me!

Thanks in advance.

please, anyone that already solve this problem please help me, is it some error in modelling? i dont understand at all

thanks in advance

Hi all.

I've got same error:

NUMBER OF COORDINATES EXCEEDED - MAXIMUM = 46000 146001 2.6735281-13.398831 -7.5

Could you anyone tell me what this all about?

Did you try to reduce number of element during meshing, total number of element should be less than 40000.

For such problems encountered, it is mostly based on your geometry type. I once edited my semisubmersible geometry and added mezzanine and I got such and found how to resolve it.

First, change the license type to one that can accommodate more nodes and elements, for instance, some are limited to 22,000 and others 40,000.
In the ANSYS Workbench, it doesn't matter the version whether v16.2, 17.0, 18.2,19.0, 19.2, go to Tools>>Licence Preferences, and change the order.
Research license and Academic license and teaching license and all different.

Secondly, in the Analysis settings, change the Modelling option to IGNORE MODELLING RULES.

Thirdly, based on the geometry, how did you model it? Make sure it is a surface body in ANSYS AQWA as the file type also matters.

Just note: check the Beta option setting. It may appear to be memory based problem. Check your C:/Temp file, or the path for the ANSYS AQWA file. Alternatively, the file format of the offshore structure must be a surface body for water to flow through it. With respect to this error you get when solving a simple time-domain routine on Module: Hydrodynamic Time Response in Aqwa, it appears to be a memory issue or it is in a long path. What is the name of the file? How long is it? And how much path is used to create the file? For instance, C:/Users/DonVic/Documents/Projects/2019Model/Offshore/Barge
and then the file name is: 103m-free-floating-barge-in-Lekki-port.

Lastly, there is a tweek that helps. Switch it to beta mood too. In ANSYS Workbench, go to Tools>> Options>> Appearance>> Beta Option. Then click OK. This should be fine and should help you solve your problem. See the attached pictures to help you. Thirdly, If the PC is slow, I also suggest you do a restart of the system to clear stack memory.

Check it again, and let us know how it goes. I use ANSYS AQWA and Orcaflex for my designs and analysis.
