Greetings,

I am doing a simulation in which I need to create several solids with orthotropic properties. I've searched on these great CFD Online forums, but haven't been able to find a solution that works entirely.

I have confirmed that CFX is interpreting my CEL correctly through the output file for the X, Y, and Z axes. The snippet looks like this:

THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY:
Option = Orthotropic Cartesian Components
Thermal Conductivity X Component = .8 [W m^-1 K^-1]
Thermal Conductivity Y Component = 144.75 [W m^-1 K^-1]
Thermal Conductivity Z Component = 144.75 [W m^-1 K^-1]
END

I also suppress the GUI errors pertaining to these in order to get the simulation to run, which runs just fine.

The problem is that I have created a simplified ANSYS Workbench model to validate the CFX approach, but the results do not match with all variables the same. I believe what might be the culprit is XY, XZ, and YZ values of thermal conductivities that are being set to zero in the simulation (you can do a contour of these in CFX post). Has anyone else encountered this, or know who to set the off axes properties?

I've been working with a CFX consulting group and they are going to ping ANSYS to get some answers, but I was wondering if anyone knew anything in the meantime. I'll let everyone know what I find out since this topics appears to come up a lot.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Cheers,
Mark
