Default Write results despite fatal error

Dear all,

I perform a transient simulation of a liquid gas tank in ANSYS CFX 16.1 with many small time steps (several hundred).
Sometimes, the convergence looks very promising and when I interrupt the solution to look at the results everything is fine. Then, something strange happens somewhere in the domain (sometimes after hours of simulation) and the solver crashes with "fatal overflow of linear solver" without writing results of the converged solutions.

I would like to open the result file and look at the converged results to see where the failure occurs and what might cause it. Is there a possibility to enforce writing of converged solutions?
I already tried the "Output control->TrnResults->output frequency" option.

Thank you in advance
Marco

You can write transient results files to see what went wrong. You might need to include the mesh as the files will be unreadable without the mesh if the thing crashes.

Take a look in your run directory. Depending on how the job failed, sometimes there is a file called zHdkce or something nonsense like that, usually starting with a z. It has results within it.

Change this to a filename.res and you should be able to open it up in Post. You might be able to find out what is happening if this file is available.

Thank you for your fast answer. I found the transient result files.
