Hi there,

I’m undertaking a timestep independence study in CFX. Basically I’m simulating the movement of particles (water) through a simple model of the respiratory tract. The total simulation time is 3 seconds and so far I’ve ran it with timesteps of 0.1s, 0.05s, 0.025s. Now I’m running it with a step of 0.0125s. However, once the solver reaches around 1400 iterations it crashes with an exit code of 2 and ERROR #001100279. Now I’ve read that this is likely due to the particle track file. Instead of tracking the particles every timestep I tracked them every 0.5 seconds (50,000 particles), this improved things slightly but it still yielded the same error. If I disable the track file completely do you think this will fix the issue? I don’t need the track file for post processing as such right now as these simulations are only to serve as a timestep independence study. I also increased memory allocation factor to 1.5. When this error occurs and it crashes, is there anyway I can continue the simulation as opposed to restarting the whole thing? I.e. change a few settings and continue the run, as when this happens it’s 10-12 hours down the drain. Does anyone have any advice? I have a 64 bit OS also.

CFX error codes are not very useful. There is no publically available list of what they mean. So for the error message to be useful you need to show what is in the output file, so please attach your output file (or at least the first bit of the output file which contains your CCL setup and the last bit of the output file which contains the lead up to the crash).

Time step independance simulation runs should be easy to do by simply changing the time step. The errors you are getting suggest there is some difficulty with your setup.

For long simulations it is recommended that you do a full transient results file every now and then. These can be used to restore the simulation if it crashes and means you don't need to start all the way from the beginning again.
