I generate a mesh in ICEM CFD (5.1 version), then I save as a mesh file (model*.uns) (File --> mesh --> save mesh as) In CFX-Pre (5.7.1 version), I start a new simulation, then I choose "Import mesh", In "mesh format", I choose "ICEM CFD", then I browse to file "model.uns", then click, but error appear, hic :

ERROR There was a problem importing the mesh from the requested file. The importing process reported the following problem: Unable to import mesh: File <C:/ICEM CFD 5.1/plugs.uns> does not appear formatted as a CFX5 import file.

I tried many times, with many different model, but have a same error, hic hic Can you show me why ? Any help would be great ! Thanks !

CFX doesn't read the *.uns file. Rather, you need to "Output" a file in CFX format.

It is an ascii file, you supply the extension.

Did you see the "Output" menu on top of your viewing area? If not, then you may miss sth in your software installation. The extension for the mesh file is "*.msh"...

Maybe problem is that by default ICEM 5.1 installs only shortcut to AI environment, which target to structural(FE) problems. (Previous version installs shortcut for other types of environment(CFD and CFX)). Try to modify shortcut by adding -cfd to command line. This launch ICEM CFD mode. Then you will have Output section in toolbar. Hope this helps.

Please see the example in tutorial manual. CFX5.7.1 is an unstructured code. If you're creating a structured hexa mesh, then you will need to convert it to unstructured hexa mesh at the end. After that, you should be able to create a mesh file (you may need to add extension *.msh manually). It seems to me that you've installed the full version (not the CFX version) and we have some difference for the interface. However, you can still output your mesh file by clicking the last button on your output menu. You will need to select the solver etc...

Are u using ICEM5 or 5.1? Try upgrading 5 to 5.1. Lots of bugs will disappear in 5.1.

You need to add the extension manually when you save the file. e.g. "model.msh" instead of "model"

I know what's wrong with you. You have a desktop icon called "ANSYS ICEM CFD 5.1", then you can move your mouse on in and clink mouse-right> and contents(maybe some other words, I use Traditional Chinese OS), you will see a "target", and add -cfx -no_post after it,, it will look like this: "C:\Program Files\Ansys Inc\v90\icemcfd\5.1-win\bin\icemcfd.bat" -cfx -no_post and then you can export name.msh file now!
