I am trying to find If is possible to simulate a reactor (column type) that vibrates unidimensionally in the direction of the axis. Inside of the reactor are pellets of a catalitic material which should react with a upflow gas. My main doubt is about the vibration. Exploring CFX I know that I can create a immersed solid Domain, which does give me an option to simulate the vibration. Is It the right approach?

If your tank vibrates with a known motion in a known direction then this is easily modelled as a moving mesh simulation. Do not use immersed solid to do this.

But note that this will have to be a transient simulation using a time step size much smaller than the vibration period. At a guess; 1/20 to most, and possibly 1/100 of the vibration period. This might lead to an impossibly large number of time steps required to model the simulation. If this is the case then you will need to do a separation of variables approach.
