Hello guys,

my problem:
I ve got a metro fan simulation. Now I need to simulate the tunnel, with the fan inside, but in a seperated simulation. So I want to take the velocity profile of the fan-simulation, and import it in the new tunnel-simulation. So the fan-outlet will be my new tunnel-inlet.

idea:
after reading a lot of posts, I got an export file (.csv) from the POST, this file I can easely import back into POST, but I think I will need it at the PRE, to start the simulation?!
(BC Profile)
--------------------------------------
(How to create a USER (planar) SURFACE

>>I m confused because he imported it back to the POST)
---------------------------------------

So I tried to create an user surface in PRE
>Tools > Initialize Profile Data

This Error occures:
"The DataFile could not be initialized as a profile: Non-unique field names seen in profile `iso31`at line 8."

The name of the surface in the export file is actual iso31. I tried a lot of different names, everytime I got this error. The name of my component (named in DesignModeler) is "fanOutlet".
I tried to name my new created boundary (PRE - where the profile is) as fanOutlet, iso31, and another names. Nothing will work.

Maybe I m totally wrong how I set the profile up? I m lost. Thanks for every help.

Here is my understanding of the process:
1 - Load your previous results file (source for the export)
2 - Go to File/Export panel
3 - Select BC Profile instead of Generic
4 - Select the type of profile boundary condition you want to apply in the next simulation
5 - Though not necessary, selecting the Face connectivity will improve things downstream (see later)

Then, in CFX-Pre, after you have loaded your mesh, you can
6 - Open the Tools/Initialize Profile Data panel
7 - Select your previously exported profile
8 - Apply, and you should see a new Function being listed in the Outline view.
9 - Optionally, if you made it this far, the function should have a toggle which allows you to display the profile in the viewer and you can verify it overlaps with the boundary of interest. If it does not read below

In case a profile is not aligned with the boundary of interest,
10 - Open the Tools/Edit Profile Data panel
11 - Select the previously exported profile
12 - Create a/several geometric transformations to align the profile. If you keep the panel open, select visibility, and press Apply you can preview the transformed profile until it aligns where you want it. Once done, close the panel.

Hope the above helps,

Hi.

Thank You for this great introduction. Till point 7 I m done. Then at point 8 this error occures. It must be something with the chosen name I think?!
But different names without any common ground doesn t work also.
Because of this error I m never in a position to have my user interface.

Later at home I will try it with another file. Thank you for the steps. They show me that I m on the right way.

Please copy the first few lines of your .csv file for us to see, i.e. the header section.

Agreed. The same thing has happened to me when the names were incorrect. The header section names must match EXACTLY what the program is expecting (i.e. match the output names), with not leading spaces.

It seems you multi-selected everything in the export panel.

What is the purpose of that? only the columns you refer to in the new setup are worth exporting, everything is a waste of disk space, reading cost when looking for other columns, and stress testing the system at your own cost.

Hi,

I only need the velocity profile, with all the important values (squirl, e.g.). At least I thought it would be save to take all properties, to be safe.
I m not so sure, which properties I can check off.

When you define the export, there should be a setting for the type of boundary condition you plan to use in the next simulation.

That setting will export exactly what you need, nothing else.

Keep in mind that Velocity can be exported for a Total Pressure + Direction inlet type boundary condition, the ANSYS CFX Solver will normalize the vector for you.

Hi. Now it worked. I took the bc profile and the inlet velocity component.

Don t know why the export doesnt work with all values. I my case the velocity is enough.

Thank you so much for the help.
