Meaning of Range of Variable like Global velocity or Local velocity in CFD post?

I am trying to plot a velocity field after a simulation. In the CFD-Post, while plotting the contour, I am getting the option as select Range : Local or Global. Both are giving different type of velocity profiles. What does this local and global velocity represent?

Local = the velocity range on the object (in this case, what object you are basing your contours on)
Global = the velocity range in the entire simulation

What objects in the sense like the objects inside the domain or the object which I have selected my contour on like I have made a plane and made a contour over it, so here my plane becomes the object? Or if I have a airfoil in a domain, then my airfoil becomes the object?

As I said, the object you are basing your contours on. So it sounds like it is the plane you are making the contours on.
