Why do some people still use Gambit program for generating mesh, instead of using the embeded mesh generating function of the Ansys workbench?
Is the gambit more easy to make it than the ansys workbench? or It is just accustomed by users for long time? What is the merit or demerit of using gambit? and using Ansys workbench for generating mesh? Thanks a lot From a CFD beginner... |

This is a meshing question, please post it in relevant forum for better chances of replies:
http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ansys-meshing/ Partly, Gambit is used due to the fact that users are habituated, and partly due to its resourcefulness in handling 2D structured meshes etc. It can be a little difficult for 3D structured meshes though. But Gambit development has been stopped while ANSYS meshing uses technology that's evolving for each iteration. Hardcore meshers prefer ICEM CFD for its enormous flexibility and power. But it is little tricky again with 3D structured meshes. As against this, ANSYS meshing makes it a bit easier to mesh, and the quality refinement checks occur during the meshing itself. As long as you have a reasonably good quality (>0.3) in most areas and better in areas of interest, you should be alright. OJ |
