Tray distillation column - CFD model Fluent

Dear Everybody,

Please let me know if the topic/thread does not fit into the category.

I am Galih from Stuttgart. I am new in the simulations for multi-phase flow (my original topic is actually aerodynamics of wind turbines). Currently I am trying to model a distillation channel incorporating "tray distillation column" in the system. My question is:

Is there any "model" that can be used for the "tray distillation column" in Ansys Fluent or should I fully resolve the mesh of the structure? If the latter is the case then I belive that the computational cost is so expensive.

As I see it, there is essentially two ways of modeling a distillation sieve tray: VOF or Euler-Euler.

For a VOF simulation, your mesh would have to be fine enough to model the bubbles. (very expensive)

For the Euler-Euler you'll model a mixture of the phases. Check this out: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science...85894707001659
