Hi,
I am new to radiation modeling, (even though I have some theoretical knowledge from courses) and my objective is to model a train fire inside a tunnel with convective and radiative heat coming from the fire. The S2S seems like a rather intuitive model but apparently costly in terms of computing power. What do you suggest would be a reasonable model in terms of computational effort to model say 20% of the total heat as radiation? Thank you in advance, Kind regards

The S2S model isn't that expensive computationally unless you have a lot of surfaces (e.g. as many surfaces as you have mesh cells). But the S2S model does not (inherently) treat participating media, so it is not appropriate for flames. The flame is not a wall of an enclosure. For flames you need to consider how to model participating media.

Thanks for the response. I am simply modeling the fire as a volumetric heat source for convective fraction, and also a radiation fraction.
However I might use the DO radiation model to do this.
