Natural ventilation simulation of high rise building in ANSYS Fluent

Hello,

I am trying to simulated a high rise building in ANSYS FLUENT. The goal here is to find our natural ventilation capacity of this building. I want to ask question to all experienced members that how should I proceed about this?

The wind velocity will approach from North-east direction only. How should I set up the physics model for this building? And how should i perform meshing? Is it ok to use default meshing options? I am planning to use Inlet as velocity inlet and outlet as pressure outlet. Since this is a high rise building, I am assuming that the density should not be kept constant, it should be function of temperature since this is a naturally ventilated building. What do you guys think? Also, what pressure should I assume at the pressure outlet? at inlet I will assume 0Pa pressure. Also, which dicretization methods would be most effective in this case for natural ventilation? Your inputs would be very useful to me for refining my analysis.

What do you mean by default meshing ? If you mean that you press update on ANSYS Meshing then absolutely not!

You have to study and understand where the mesh should be very small and make boundary layers around the walls/ground. Make sure you are 100% sure of the mesh, there are lots of threads on this website where people talked about boundary layers and mesh quality etc.

depending on your Reynolds number you have to see if you get laminar or turbulence. Solving steady state might cause some issues but I am not sure at all how big is your project (a Uni simple project where result does not really matter to decimals, or a big industrial one).

So maybe provide more detail of your project and what you are planning to do, while doing study on how to model this, and I might be able to help you more then.

Just remember CFD is a very beautiful app that no matter what values you input to the system and how wrong they are it still can draw you a beautiful/rubbish results. So it is extremely important to understand whats happening behind the scene and know what you hsould be expecting as the results. CFD Could be your enemy or your best friend
