Hi everyone,
I am new to FLUENT. I need to define boundary conditions for closed loop system shown in attached figure. I am unable to figure out how to define pump inlet and outlet boundary conditions. If i just select face between pipe and pump and assign pressure inlet condition, Fluent says that inlet region is between two regions and this needs to be corrected before calculation. Kindly assist me. Thanks in advance. |

Yeah you can't have a boundary condition where there isn't a boundary. If you want to impose something there, then delete the region for the pump and model it using the boundary conditions. This isn't a Fluent problem but a problem definition problem.

Kindly assist me further. I want to simulate this model. It is a closed loop system. If i delete region for pump, i think i will become open boundary case. I need to simulate in closed loop. I can either use periodic condition i do have some knowledge about it but it doesn't seem to work for me.. Is there any other way of doing this? Can you provide directions to me? I am higly thank ful for the help |

Hi all
I have the same problem. I want to have the pump in my close loop in order to have the same fluid circulate in the loop. I do not know whether to break the loop or use periodic b.c or even using UDF.I'll be thankful if anyone help me with this |

Hi everyone,
has anyone solved the problem? I would also be interested to understand how to set everything up. Best Regards, Michele |

In a real case, closed loop system has a reason for its existence. But in a simulation, you can do it both ways. If you want the system to be really closed loop, then you have to model at least one component, such as, pump, using sources. Do not model that component via source terms that is being studied, only the one that is acceptable as a blackbox. So, if objective is to study the heat transfer in a certain region, the pump could be modeled using sources. Just provide momentum and energy source values.
