I am dealing with LES using Fluent. The main query is about the way to know how long the LES simulation needs to run.

In the Fluent Manual Section 12.19.5, it recommends to run LES until the flow becomes statistically steady.

If the statistics are collected by enabling Data Sampling for Time Statics, which seems can be only post processed, it would be difficult to monitor the statistical steadiness of LES during the calculation, and say now the simulation can be stopped as it reached the statistically steady point.

Or is there a way to monitor the statistics during calculation?

Does anybody know how to do this?

I am using Fluent 19.

They are available at runtime. Every time-step the statistics are updated and they have variable names like mean and rms. You run until these mean and rms values no longer change.

HI LuckyTran,

Thank you for your message. My actual problem is to view the statistics in Fluent while calculating. At the moment I have set the fluent to plot 'vertex average of velocity magnitude' at a point to see whether the values are becoming stable.

But I couldn't figure out to plot the actual statistics mean and rms while calculating.
One example showed to do it in CFD-post, but I was wondering whether I could do this in fluent.

Thank you in advance. =)

Hi LuckyTran,

i actually got it now. It is part of Solution ==> Monitor.
Thank you for your input!
