Hi all,

I am an undergraduate civil engineering student looking to merely analyse an existing model which includes a centrifugal pump fed by an elevated reservoir with an upstream valve to alter the system pressure.

I am prepared to spend a few weeks learning fluent and how to manipulate variables within the system and I am not particular about which pump I use but it really needs to be a real working model of something used in the industry and have a pump curve.

Designing the system components would be good but is outside my scope of practice as a civil engineer and in any case, I need a proper model of something 'off the shelf'.

1. Is this possible? Do I have any chance of getting a working model of a manufactured pump?

2. Is it possible to create a model of an 'off the shelf' system using only the performance information provided by the manufacturer?

2b. How big of an undertaking is this in terms of a complete novice working 8hrs/day.

Like I said, I'm an undergraduate still studying a full course load otherwise and this is just a small part of my thesis. I really had no idea what I was getting into. My project supervisor said it would be possible to find an existing model but after searching for a few days now I'm just beginning to think that it is not possible.

I think it is possible, you should search companies that provide such service and sent your cv. In general is such areas it is very important to have experience because it is not enough to have a degree. A good idea is to make an internship in companies for other countries to see and understand the different method of working. You can try grabe.com.br , when I was in Brazil I saw that they produce different industrial pumps and filters. You can check on google what companies provide internships.
