Hello everyone,

I completed a 3D simulation of a wing with winglet in ANSYS Fluent and exported the data by going file > export > solution data. I then selected the Tecplot format and all of the possible variables and domains (fluid domain, wing surface, etc.).
I then loaded the data in Tecplot so that I could plot the vorticity magnitude. However, I wasn't able to "slice" through volume zones (i.e. the fluid domain) and only through the surface zones (i.e. wing surface). I resolved this issue by interpolating the data by following a tutorial on youtube. However, now when I slice through the volume zone, it's only showing vorticity on the wing's surface still and not on the slice. I have attached a photo, notice how you can see the magnitude vorticity on the wing, but then on the slice behind it is a solid colour showing zero vorticity. The slice is the same colour no matter where I place it along the x axis.
I haven't been able to find any more help on this, I think it has something to do with how I exported the data from ANSYS but I'm not sure how else to do it. This is my first time using Tecplot so I am not quite sure what I'm doing yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Tecplot can import fluent .cas and .dat files directly, you don't need to use the exporter.

I forget the exact steps, but yes there is some trick to the way you have to export it. When you select surfaces in the GUI, only those surfaces are exported and not the cell data. I think you have to also select the interior surface or something. On the other hand, if you do not select any surfaces, then all the volumes (and surfaces???) are exported.

I have always found this to be cumbersome, with Tecplot messing up with the names of the variables when reading in the .cas and .dat files directly.

My workaround is to export Fluent results in CGNS and then read the CGNS file in Tecplot.

Another workaround is to use the Ensight format.
