Hi all

New user to fluent here and am trying to model a scenario of a wing with a Gurney flap attached to the trailing edge.

I have tried to split the surrounding c-mesh into quadrants and using sizings and a Bias to achieve a good mesh around the flap however the boundary layer is never well resolved (y plus <1 never met) and the flap mesh is always bad.

Instead I tried this new approach whereby I create a small oval face over the wing and apply a inflation layer between it and the structured mesh on the outside (see fig1). This seems to work but adds some mesh in the aerofoil section I froze and removed from the c section and oval surface see fig2 and 3.

Does anyone know why the mesh if forming in parts of the cut out geometry?

Are there any better ways to model this scenario?

Thanks!

try to avoid any sharp edges in model

most likely you want mesh to be conformal through the domain. to do that put all your zones into one part in design modeler

I recommend you to check few videos in youtube to get better understanding of you should finally make, put into sear line:
"ansys fluent airfoil meshing good practices"

What do you mean by this sorry? Make sure to keep the whole wing and flap in one quadrant? do you have pic perhaps?

Thanks for the help
